KastKing BFS Zephyr baitcaster reels have undergone an extensive design and manufacturer process that gives you the lightness and strength of carbon fiber plus the durability and smoothness of precision gears and double shielded stainless steel ball bearings in a fishing reel that only weighs 5.6oz.
KastKing Bait Finesse System Zephyr baitcasting reels use an extensive array of unique carbon fiber materials. Carbon fiber is lighter than aluminum and stronger than steel for its weight. KastKing built Zephyr casting reels with carbon fiber frames and side plates and a carbon disc drag for 10 Lbs. of smooth drag with light finesse fishing lines. Zephyr takes your BFS game to a whole new level!
Inside Zephyr's carbon shell are 6 + 1 double shielded stainless steel ball bearings with super free-spooling spool bearings that allow the farthest casts with the lightest baits. Precision machined T7075 hardened aluminum alloy main gears and brass pinion gears, nickel plated brass worm shaft, and an 8-magnet braking system get the work done easily and without effort.
To save even more weight without sacrificing strength KastKing chose advanced aluminum alloys for the laser engraved anodized shallow spool, main shaft, main gear, black anodized handle with EVA knob, and tension knob. And to add more excitement to BFS catches, there's a drag clicker version for the new Zephyr.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and no doubt, Zephyr is a beauty. Select celluloid paints and anodizing gives Zephyr a clean, crisp appearance that will look great on your fishing rod. Zephyr is a perfect BFS fishing reel for trout fishing, bass fishing, or smaller saltwater inshore species. I use this reel for more than just BFS. I also own one Kastrel which is an obvious step up at over twice the price. That being said this is a fine reel. All I will purchase from now on is BFS. This is because of the shallow spools on BFS. The cost of floro is very high but with a BFS I can afford to put new line on it every Tournament or trip I want. I can make a 200yd spool last 4 times longer or more than traditional spools. This is an awesome jerkbait reel, light, comfortable easy casting using 8-10 lb test. Also works great for cranks, finesse spinnerbaits, jigs, whatever suits your rod and line. It won’t replace all techniques but if you use it when possible you can afford to purchase several Zephers for the savings you will get by not wasting Floro during a year. The one piece of advice is DO NOT overfill the spool. There is a sweet spot on the amount of line. the best if found is around 30 yds of 10lb. It doesn’t seem to handle the max spool well but nore does it need to it will only cause needless issues. I hope this helps with your purchase of Zephers. The Kastrel Elite is the bomb.
I have four of these. Use them for senkos, wacky, speed worms and Crankbait. Shallow spool means you don't need a whole lot of line. They cast smooth and the drag is plenty for large bass. By a couple, you won't be disappointed.
The zephyr BFS is a really good baitcast reel. I am able to throw 1/4 oz baits as far as my spinning reels! That is impressive! I have standard baitcasters they can't touch the casting distance of the zephyr.
I use this reel with a 1/8 oz jig and it casts really far. I love this reel. I had a couple really bad backlashes at first but I’m new to fishing and this is my first new baitcaster, so it is expected.
