Best KastKing Reel Review: Versatile Baitcasting Gear for Every Angler
I recently purchased the KastKing Mg-Ti Elite baitcasting reel and after just two sessions out fishing on lake Ontario in Northen NY I feel confident recommending this reel to any angler wishing to use baitcasting equipment. From the seasoned angler to the novice this reel is worth a look if you enjoy fishing with baitcasting gear.
Crossover Applications
Oftentimes anglers purchase a reel for a specific purpose/application, which could require the purchase of additional reels to meet all their angling needs. The Mg-Ti Elite is designed to do many things, and it delivers. Casting 1/16- to 1-ounce lures with this reel is super easy to use.I’ve had great success casting several lures ranging from 1/8- to 3/8-ounce directly into 8- to 12- mph winds, experiencing no backlashes. On a recent trip I fished square bills, blade baits, spinnerbaits, swimbaits and football jigs, and what a blast it is casting the Mg-Ti Elite. I spooled the reel with 8 lb. braided line and used a 12.9lb. fluorocarbon leader on these different techniques and they all produced nice smallmouth bass and walleye. On this trip, the horizontal swimbait smallmouth bite dominated the day, but dragging a football jig dressed with a swimbait across the bottom produced three nice walleye bites too.
In my 45 years of fishing with baitcasting gear, this is the first reel I’ve encountered that fits the bill for crossover applications. A reel that can genuinely do it all.
Notable Features
The spool tension knob provides audible clicks for precise settings, and the magnetic cast control knob lets you fine to the settings to avoid any backlashes while casting. The star drag is easily adjusted and again the audible clicks allow for precise setting to the right amount of power based on the size line you’re using. It’s a lightweight reel, just 5 -ounces, that’s ergonomically designed to fit your palm, allowing for trouble free casting all day long.
Here's a look at some smallmouth bass I caught while casting swimbaits with the KastKing Mg-Ti Elite baitcaster.
