Top 5 Fishing Rod and Reel Combo for Fall Bass Fishing 2025
As fall arrives throughout the regions, anglers are always searching for that "perfect" fishing rod for bass fishing. Although there is no perfect fishing rod for bass fishing that covers every possible situation, I have found certain bass fishing rod and reel combos work really well for specific tactics. KastKing has a wide array of bass fishing combos – already paired, or ones that just pair well with each other. Let's see if my choices can lead you to a great fall bass fishing season, with hopefully some solid lunkers in the mix. For this piece, I'll break it down into five categories that I use.
1. Assegai Technique Bass Rod (Core Spinning) / Skeet Reese Icon Spinning Reel
For me, nothing beats the Assegai 7-foot model (Core Spinning) rated for 8-14. For the reel, I use the Skeet Reese Icon in size 3000. This rod and reel combo for fall bass fishing serves me well, and I am sure you will like it too. The rod has enough strength to get bass out of cover, but also long enough to enable longer casts, which at times helps "sneak" up on wary bass, especially in clear water. On the line end, I use KastKing Hammer FFS braid in 10-pound test with a 12-pound test Kovert fluorocarbon leader. This combo achieves strength, and casting distance, plus the lighter line allows you to work soft plastic unweighted worms and any other smaller offering for fall bass fishing.
2. Royale Legend Pro Rod (Power Spin) / Royale Legend Pro Spinning Reel
The next fall bass fishing combo I like is also a spinning combo. For poppers, weighted swim baits under 1/2 ounce and skipping Senko style stick baits under docks, the Royale Legend Pro 7-foot, 6-inch model and Royale Legend Pro Spinning Reel in size 4000 makes for the best possible strength and ability to accurately cast you will need. When I am fishing poppers for fall bass, I like long casts, but I also like to fish swimbaits in among cover. I will also skip stick baits under docks. This rod, with the slightly larger 4000 size reel will give you the ability to do both. For line, I use 15-pound Hammer FFS Braid and 15-20 pound Monofilament leader.
3. Verus Rod (7'6", Fast, Medium Heavy) / Skeet Reese Icon Baitcasting Reel
As the lures/baits begin to gain weight, I like to switch over to baitcasting rod and reel combos. For swim jig and bladed bait style lures. When fall fishing, your profiles to match baitfish begin to move up in size. For any of the three lures I consider reaction lures – spinnerbait, blade bait and swim jig, matching the forage is a key. The Verus Casting Rod is the perfect rod for this application. It boasts a nice 7-foot, 6-inch length that, similar to the spinning rods, allows for longer casts when needed, but also enough backbone to cull larger fish out of structure. On the reel end, as in other favorites for fall bass fishing, the Skeet Reese Icon gets the nod. I do most of my fishing from a bass boat. If you often fish from the shore, the KastKing Royal Legend Pro Casting Rod is a great choice for "Bladed Jigs". I spool this reel with 15-pound Kovert fluorocarbon which allows easy bite detection and a nice sink rate to aid in working the lure. As with any moving bait of this type, I like to "bang" it off any structure or weed growth I can find.
4. Royal Legend Pro Rod (Jig, Worm) / MgTi Elite Baitcasting Reel
When bass fishing in the fall, there will definitely be times when light weighted worms will be used around structure and grass. The KastKing Royal Legend Pro Casting Rod in 7'2" length is the perfect rod for this technique. The length will allow you to put pressure on bass and still be able to sling slightly lighter, almost finesse style, baits bass in hiding. On the reel end, I really like the MgTi Elite with 10-pound test braid and 12-pound test fluorocarbon leader. This reel is lightweight and offers unbelievable casting ability. And, this combo is super light so you can fish all day with no fears of arm fatigue.
5. Cliff Crochet Bass Rod (7'8", Extra Fast, Very Heavy) / Deadbolt Baitcasting Reel
Another great option in the fall when bass fishing is creature baits fished Texas style. Although you can fish creature style lures in open water, the most productive areas will be heavy cover. Blown down trees, Cypress Tree elbows, heavy lily pad fields, rocky structure etc. Once you start going this route when bass fishing, heavier line is the go-to. The Cliff Crochet Series of rods are beasts when heavier cover comes into play. These rods, with their faster taper and high pound test rates will have you dragging big bass out of heavy cover. For the reel, what else would you use then the KastKing Deadbolt Baitcasting Reel? This reel offers instant hook-ups with zero slippage do to drag because there is no drag! Spool the reel with 30 to 50-pound KastKing SuperPower Silky 8 braid. Leader is a personal choice. For me, I like a Kovert fluorocarbon leader of 30-pound test, whereas some anglers tie the braid directly to the lure. Either way, bass have no chance at winning once hooked with this deadly combo.
These are just five rod and reel combos I recommend for fall bass fishing. There are many other options in the KastKing lineup, but if you have these five, you’ll be ready for any lure or bait this fall. Until next time — tight lines and screaming drags!
