Over the past year, KastKing unveiled two new low profile, palm size baitcasting reels: the MG-Ti Elite and the AL-Ti Elite.

The MG-Ti Elite was introduced first, launching in July 2025 at the ICAST Show. It was marketed as the world's first baitcasting reel featuring a true titanium spool, designed as a lightweight (5 oz) high-performance reel. In 2026 at the Bassmaster Classic Expo, the AL-Ti Elite was launched.

I have used both of these reels extensively over the past year, and I love them both. They are super smooth, cast like bullets, and feature premium drag systems for fish-stopping power. However, they are very similar and can be mixed and matched with various rods for different applications. Let's take a closer look at how to use them with different rods, plus the key attributes they offer.

Key Features of MG-Ti and AL-Ti Baitcasting Reels

Both reels feature the first-ever true titanium spool, combining ultra-lightweight performance with superior strength. This spool weighs only 6.9 grams. With near zero-inertia startup, it allows anglers to cast lures from 1/16 oz to over 1 oz with ease. In practice, this means both reels can handle most bass fishing lures effectively.

When it comes to frame design and durability, the key difference lies in material construction.

The AL-Ti Elite baitcasting reel features an aluminum alloy frame paired with a carbon fiber star drag. This delivers a strong, rigid, and highly durable construction with a solid metallic feel in hand. Weighing 5.6 oz, it offers excellent structural performance and long-term durability at a more cost-effective price point.

The MG-Ti Elite baitcasting reel uses a magnesium alloy frame engineered for ultra-lightweight finesse performance, weighing just 5 oz. It features a Tournament Star Drag that enables precise, single-hand adjustments, making it especially well-suited for finesse fishing and fine drag control.

Overall, both platforms are engineered to deliver a strong yet lightweight feel in hand, achieving a refined balance of rigidity, durability, and reduced weight through advanced metal material integration.

Braking System Performance

This system uses a seamless ring of 12 NS magnets for smooth and stable casting performance.

In simple terms, this allows anglers to generate high spool speed for long-distance casts while still maintaining control for short, accurate presentations with minimal backlash. The self-adaptive magnetic braking system provides strong control during high-speed casts and gradually reduces braking force during flight to optimize casting distance.

Its cross-threaded design also minimizes brake weight, improving stability and casting efficiency without adding unnecessary spool load.

Bearings, Gears, and Drag System Performance

Both reels feature a 9+1 MaxiDur double-shielded ball bearing configuration, delivering ultra-smooth casting and retrieval performance. The 7.2:1 gear ratio makes them versatile for most bass fishing techniques.

The MG-Ti includes two custom-grade high-precision EZO spool bearings, while the AL-Ti is equipped with two high-speed spool shaft bearings. This difference contributes to subtle performance tuning between finesse control and general-purpose power.

Both reels are built with UltraDura 90 brass pinion gears and Aerospace T6 aluminum gears, ensuring excellent strength, stability, and smooth operation under load. In addition, both models deliver 18 pounds of drag pressure, providing strong fish-stopping power when targeting hard-fighting bass.

Comfort, Size, and On-the-Water Feel

One of the standout features of both reels is their compact size. At 39 mm, they fit comfortably in most hand sizes, offering excellent ergonomics for long days on the water. Weighing only around 5 ounces, both reels significantly reduce fatigue during extended casting sessions.

The primary real-world difference between the two models is price. The MG-Ti is approximately $70 more expensive than the AL-Ti. With very similar specifications and identical sizing, the choice ultimately comes down to personal preference. Personally, I enjoy both, although I slightly prefer the drag knob feel on the MG-Ti.

Another standout feature is the drag clicker system. Traditionally found on spinning reels, both MG-Ti and AL-Ti incorporate this feature into a baitcasting reel. When a fish takes drag, the audible click provides real-time feedback, helping anglers better understand pressure and fight timing. It may seem small, but it significantly improves fishing awareness on the water.

Pairing MG-Ti and AL-Ti with Rods

Both reels are highly versatile and can be paired with a wide variety of rods for different fishing applications.

For my first setup, I use the MG-Ti baitcasting reel on the Assegai Sweet Carolina rod. Although this rod is excellent for jigging and dragging applications, I primarily use it for chatterbait fishing. Whether fishing fast, slow, or ripping through grass, the MG-Ti performs exceptionally well. Its deeper spool design also makes it easy to spool 12–15 lb fluorocarbon as a main line.

For the AL-Ti, I pair it with the Royal Legend Pro topwater rod. This has become my go-to setup for walking baits like Zara Spook style lures. These techniques require both power and rhythm, and the AL-Ti delivers with its 7.2:1 gear ratio. Its 30 mm spool diameter and narrow spool design improves lure cast startup performance while reducing spool inertia during flight, resulting in smoother and more controlled casts. The Royal Legend rod provides the perfect balance of length and power for long casts using light braided line with a mono leader.

Both reels also feature a reinforced, thicker main gear design, increasing tooth contact area for improved torque transfer and stronger cranking power. These are just two examples of how I personally use these reels in real fishing conditions.

The MG-Ti and AL-Ti are very similar in overall design, performance, and application. As you can see, either reel can be used interchangeably across a wide range of rods and fishing techniques. Both can also serve as excellent skipping reels or finesse setups depending on your fishing style.

In reality, the differences between them are subtle, and both are strong additions to any serious angler's fishing arsenal. Whether you choose one or both, they are a wise investment for performance-focused anglers.
