KastKing KONG series rods are designed for anglers targeting massive fish in fresh and saltwater! These lightweight, powerful, 100% graphite blanks are made of high-strength S-Curve graphite reinforced with Nano-Resin technology that delivers amazing strength and lifting power but are still incredibly light and sensitive.
Because KastKing KONG rods are made to handle giant fish, every component must be up to the challenge. We use only stainless-steel, double foot guides because of their strength and each guide has an ultra-smooth Titanium Oxide ring which is designed to perform flawlessly with heavy braided line. The combination of strong frames and durable rings are perfect for extreme conditions.
When targeting big fish, every component must be up to the challenge. We use extra strong graphite reel seats with nylon reinforcement to ensure that large reels stay secure. Custom handles feature an EVA core for comfort and a rubber cross wrap for durability. Foregrips have a spiral cross wrap with finger slots that provide control over big fish. Some models also include graphite gimbals in the fighting butt.
The bright chartreuse "Strike Tip" enhances early strike detection even in low light conditions and quickly alerts you to even the lightest bites, so you never miss a fish. The "Strike Tips" are also great for night fishing but equally well in bright sunlight.
I purchased the KastKing Kong Casting Rod (2-piece, 7’6”, Heavy) on October 13, 2024. As a longtime KastKing fan, I had high expectations based on their consistent quality and value. I regularly recommend their products to fellow anglers and have had great experiences overall.
The rod handled my 7.5” deep diving plugs with ease on the first outing, and there’s no doubt it has serious backbone. However, I quickly realized it was much heavier than expected. To be fair, I don’t think this rod was designed for a long day of casting—it’s more of a heavy-duty rod suited for soaking big chunk baits, probably aimed more at catfish or large freshwater species.
I was specifically looking for something with plenty of backbone but in a lighter package for targeting inshore grouper, so this rod wasn’t quite the right fit for that type of fishing.
On just my second trip, several of the guide ring inserts broke after about ten casts. I use the rod in saltwater but always clean my gear thoroughly and store it indoors on a KastKing rod rack. I take good care of my equipment, so this kind of failure was frustrating.
The upside? KastKing’s customer service was excellent. They responded quickly and replaced the rod without any hassle. That kind of support is why I’ll continue to be a loyal KastKing customer.
I’m heading out today to give the replacement rod a proper test, and I’ll update again once I’ve had more time with it. While the original rod had issues and wasn’t quite the right match for my needs, KastKing continues to impress with how they back their products.
Packaging on delivery was outstanding, I fitted a KastKing 50R Round Rover reel with 25# Berkeley Big Game Trilene Mono line for my main line, using a Santee Cooper rig with a 1.5 ounce slip weight and 6-0 circle hook baited with Skipjack, Bank Fishing in a 800 acre Lake with average depth of 4’! First catch was a 8lb Channel cat, the rod tip alerted a bite really well, both the rod and reel worked perfectly! Con’s: wish the reel seat was aluminum or stainless steel! But at this time I feel for the money, this rod is a winner! 👍😎🇺🇸🎣
