Weighing in at an ultra-light 4.5 ounces, the Kestrel Baitcasting Reel combines feather-light design with rigid performance. The carbon fiber frame and side covers empower anglers to effortlessly cast lightweight baits with extended accuracy, virtually eliminating backlashes. The Palm Perfect Design at 37.5mm ensures a comfortable fishing experience all day long.
The Kestrel features an ultra-lightweight shallow feather spool weighing only 5.6 grams. This micro-spool excels at handling smaller diameter lines, perfect for finesse fishing. With minimal effort, the shallow spool accelerates swiftly, enabling anglers to effectively cast lures down to an impressive 1/32 oz.
The FAF (Flyout Arc Finesse) Braking system was designed specifically for finesse fishing. Two half-ring magnetic brakes automatically adjust to slow down the spool when braking is needed to prevent backlashes. As the speed of the spool decreases, the magnetic field inside the spool diminishes and the magnets retract to maximize casting distance. There is also an external fingertip brake adjustment dial for fine tuning spool speeds for smaller baits.
Indulge in an unmatched smooth retrieve with 11+1 MaxiDur Double Shielded Stainless Steel Ball Bearings. Unleash the extraordinary performance of the 7.5:1 and 8.4:1 high-speed gear ratio, a testament to durability with precision-crafted aluminum main gear, brass pinion gear, and aluminum main gear shaft. This Baitcasting reel seamlessly blends smoothness and speed for an exceptional angling experience that stands the test of time.
The patented LFTV (Low Friction Tapered Vortex) Line Guide decreases the angle at which the line enters the guide, limiting friction during casts. A straighter line and reduced friction result in fewer backlashes and greater distance on casts, both of which are qualities highly desirable among serious finesse anglers. Experience up to 12 lbs of smooth drag that provides plenty of fish-stopping power and the audible drag clicker also gives you feedback.

Although I have not fished with this reel yet, out of the box it is light smooth appears to be very well built. The proof will be once I am able to fish with it. I. My hand it compares to reela I have that cost 3 to 4 times as much.
I have a Royale Legend rod and reel setup that has been abused and left in the elements for a couple of years. It still works great, but I was wanting something that could cast smaller lures. I’ve tried using a couple of spinning setups, but couldn’t get any distance. Since my abused Royale Legend hasn’t let me down, I started my search on the KastKing website. The Kestrel BFS caught my attention. So I ordered the right hand 8.4:1 and paired it with the telescopic Blackhawk ll 7’1” M rod.
I just received them and couldn’t wait to try them out. Getting the Blackhawk extended took a little work ( because of my OCD) but it wasn’t difficult. Got the reel setup with 8lb braided line and dialed in, then took them out for a try.
It was amazing, a quick flick of the wrist and the distance was like wow did I just do that. I had to dial it in a little, could cast without thumb breaking with good distance. If you’re looking to get into BFS fishing I would highly recommended this reel.
I have the Zephyr and bought this one as an upgrade. I have no complaints about the Zephyr just wanted a second BFS option. The Kestrel performs really well. I’ve even casted into the wind with very light finesse setups and no backlashing. When casting a 1/2 oz lipless crank bait I was easily able to cast 40-50 yds. Great reel, my new favorite. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking to try a BFS reel!
Love it casting is smooth and as a beautiful drag clicker
I've owned KastKing reels in the past and this one intrigued me so I got one. Spooled it with 15# braid and of I went.
1. It's light...like farther light.
2. I have small hands and it fits wonderfully in my palm.
3. Brakes were easy to adjust and I had that baby dialed in quick like.
4. Casts a soft plastic with an ⅛oz jig head almost as effortlessly as a big topwater.
Only one really big sheepshead on the first trip but the drag was flawless.
Just need to see how durable it is. If it stands the test of time it'll easily be my favorite reel.
