I was looking for an entry level swimbait reel, but I quickly found out that the 300 size reels were not only the primary option for most anglers..but they also were out of my price range at the time. I did research on 200's, made lists of all 200 size reels available, cost and all. BY FAR Kastking has the best reel for exactly this! Paired it up with a 7' 10" Lamiglas xp bass series moderate fast / heavy (did the same research and lists for the rods)
I can't be happier got me some of my biggest fish yet!
After two weekends throwing swimbaits, this is an awesome reel and works as advertised. I'm casting farther and the large than normal handle is perfect for pulling fish out of the junk I throw swimbaits in.
This is the first bait casting reel I've ever used on Alaskan king salmon. I was able to get approximately 115 yards of 80 lb. braid on it, plenty of line for holding these large fish in pocket water off the main current. The river I fish flows and average of 13 MPH so this is a must. None of the 4 kings I landed were particularly large, in the 15-25 lb. range, but this reel performed flawlessly. Smooth as silk, a great caster, and a powerful enough drag to prevent fish from hitting the main current and taking off downriver. I have since purchased 2 more, which are spooled with plenty of 30 and 40 lb. braid for coho salmon in the salt. If you are pursuing larger fish, this is a great option at an affordable price!
After enjoying the Royale Legend II, I decided to upgrade to the Legend II 200. Many adventures to come.
