Great Reel, Great Company

I have the Rover 80R (3yrs)and I love it. It is a workhorse and for anyone who says it can't handle big fish that's totally inaccurate. I use this with reel with 89lb. Dacron for Catfish Tourneys and catch monsters all day. Pictured R-L is a Spanish Mack , a 22, 27, and a 44 lbs shovelhead, all caught on the same reel. I use it everywhere lakes, rivers, ocean (on right 1st pic) and it has never not brought a fish in (as long as the line holds). It once spent an hour under water in a paylake (operator error drag too tight), fished it out with other rod, washed it off with a bottle of water and used it another 6hrs catching multiple fish over 20lbs. If you've never fought a shovelhead they are not easy to fight all muscle and stubborn. Largest fish on this reel was a 65lbs shovel and a 3ft ray. Over 3yrs, i have basically abused this reel as much as possible and aside from some minor scratches on the outside plating, it casts like butter and hauls in monsters like a winch. Best reel I own, which is saying alot as I still own a 45yo zebco traditional my Papaw gave me when I was 6. I wouldn't buy another heavy duty reel other than this one. Quality craftsmanship and customer service, Kastking is a Big name company with a mom and pop feel. Tight lines.

Typically get 1 season from my catfish reels. Had this one 3/4 of this season with no issues. A solid reel well built. Loud bait clicker. Cast better than most I have used. A beast of a reel. Will purchase more. Tired of testing all reels. This unit so far is the best bang for your buck. Idaho Cat fisherman. RB

Didn’t work correctly out of the box first time out. I have to manipulate the spool back and forth before it will loosen and cast. After about 5-6 “rolling” motions with my thumb the spool “breaks loose” and it will cast. Thought after a few casts it might right itself. But putting gear away today and it’s doing the same thing. Adjusted brakes and spool tensioner as well as let a buddy check it out who has more experience with these heavier reels, but nothing seems to work. Not really satisfied with a $70 reel that doesn’t function properly. Maybe I just got a lemon. I have some lighter KastKing stuff and have been happy with it so far. It’s going to be hard to trust this reel on a big fish I think.
