Rover Round Baitcasting Reel

With the recent 40% off sale on this reel, I picked up the 40R to add to my Okuma SST 9’ H for long casting shore fishing with the bait clicker. I’m going to target striper and catfish on the bottom with frozen anchovies. The shipping was quick fro Vermont to NV, box was packed perfectly, reel is smooth with no dings or marks. Should have grabbed a bigger model for some lead-core line and trolling. Maybe Black Friday will bring the sale back.

Good reel have used them now for 2 yrs. But know the cranking handle handles are falling off. It seems they are just glued on . Now looking for replacements. Iv had 2 do this now.

I used the 40 and 50 out in the Dry Tortuga ! Landed some nice Mangrove snappers, Almaco Jacks (40), Yellowtail snappers and Lane snappers, a 19inch red grouper and some red snappers( safely released). . All used in 100 to 200ft of water.

I like it. Looks like a good reel. Gotta put it thru the test this season.

Pretty decently built may Kast a few heavy action seasons on freshwater lakes. Like that I can turn “audible clicker” on/off. Might be good for trolling drag indicator if tuned right. Took off a star as even discounted great price the gears are crunchy and the ratio may be a little low even with a full spool. Usually with a conventional reel having 6 bearings you get a smooth crank turn right out of the box. Another part of the missing 5th star is a general rating for the Kong poles being out of stock for almost every Heavy reel I ordered. I feel this is not acceptable. I’m not seeing any anglers with Kong poles out here in Texas and I fish constantly and engage with everyone I get near enough to talk fishing! All in all it’s a good well built weekend warrior level use reel that I can see lasting a few years if well maintained.
