Alright, I’ve gotta say it — the KastKing MG12 Elite Titanium might just be my new favorite toy. The first time I picked it up, I thought the box was empty. This thing is crazy light — only 4.8 ounces — but somehow still feels solid, like it’s carved out of one piece of confidence. The titanium spool and magnesium frame make it feel more like a precision instrument than a fishing reel.
Out on the water, it’s a finesse dream. I’m slinging little swimbaits, weightless worms, and finesse jigs like I’m auditioning for a slow-motion casting commercial. The titanium spool starts up instantly, so even tiny baits fly like they’ve got somewhere important to be. The braking system is stupid smooth — once you dial it in, you can pretty much forget about backlashes unless you’re trying to impress your buddies with trick casts (ask me how I know).
It’s buttery smooth on the retrieve, the drag’s tighter than my budget after buying it, and it feels so balanced that I caught myself just casting for fun. Paired with a nice light rod, the MG12 Elite Ti feels like an extension of your arm — or maybe like fishing with Jedi powers.
Bottom line: the MG12 Elite Ti absolutely punches way above its weight class. It’s light, powerful, stupid fun to fish with, and looks sharp doing it. Whether you’re a finesse junkie or just want a reel that’ll make you smile every time you cast — this little guy delivers.
An update to my previous review......the reel has been great so far and the drag clicker is highly informative on letting me know where i want it set right in the fight. Pulled in a 40" pike today, he pulled drag for a 2 minute fight. He broke my pretty new Royal Advantage 7'6" MH rod though. Still casting great, keeping the brakes set at around 3.
Just got this rigged up with 15lb braid and 20lb fluro leader, Royale Advantage MH 7'6" rod. It directly replaced my Mg12 which i have been using all summer (going to convert that to 50lb braid heavy cover setup).
Right off the bat i noticed it's smooth as glass, upping the mg12 and that reel is damn smooth. To my surprise i can cast light lures down to 1/8 oz and it didn't matter much about where the brakes are set, i had it at #4 setting with the spool tension knob wide open, no backlashing. Using thumb to stop the spool right before it hits water of course. Was casting 1/2 oz and 3/4 oz lures at ridiculous (to me) distances, not even sure if i can properly set the hook at the distances it was going. No bites on my short first day, but i am feinding to hear the loud drag clicker go off on a fattie, it will soon enough. The braking system on this reel seems to be a drastic improvement on the Mg12's so far, i'm assuming that's how im casting a tiny little spinner lure (15lb braid, 20lb fluro leader) on the same brake setting as my chatter bait and theres no back lashing.
I liked the reel cover that it came with, that was unexpected. I love the reel so far but i want to see how others stack this up against shimano, daiwa etc. For the price and performance.
I have been wanting kastking to start up a trade in/refurbish program.
I have many high end reels and this reel is right beside my 2023 Metanium MGL except the Mg Ti has a much stronger drag. Very smooth, light and casts my 1/8oz and 1/16oz baits amazingly. Highly recommend 🤝.
I know that a lot of folks have opinions about KastKing’s latest reel but all I can say is that this reel performs above and beyond my expectations! I can only talk for me but I have landed solid fish with no issues at all! Zero, zero and zero complaints and nothing but praises about this reel! I would like to see a black one piece rod with titanium accents or hardware to compliment this amazing reel! KastKing, please keep bringing the heat!
