This past July 4th, America celebrated 250 years since the Declaration of Independence was signed. It is truly remarkable that after 250 years, America is still enduring maritime heritage and marine conservation. That day highlights the freedom all Americans have to fish, and the vital role that federal policies have played in maintaining sustainable fisheries and clean waters.

To honor this milestone, the American Sportfishing Association (ASA) has put together the top 250 American Fishing Destinations all anglers can explore and enjoy. They challenge all of us to get out and fish.

Exploring America's Top Destinations and Our Fishing Heritage

Some of the top destinations I have fished that are on the list include Block Island, Key West, Montauk, Lake Hopatcong, Sandy Hook, Yellowstone National Park, and Madison River to name a few. I have fished more as well!

Before buildings, highways, and crowded cities made up America, fishing was a way to feed your family and put a few dollars in your pocket by selling your catch. This was the foundation from which we enjoy fishing today. Fishing is also a great teacher. Fishing teaches anglers that if you work at it and stay with it, the rewards are endless.

Fishing also will bring back fond memories that I know we all treasure. Do you remember your first fishing trip? I do, because my mom made sure I had a fishing pole, bait, and my dog Ginger before she dropped me off at Bay Shore Marina on Long Island, NY to fish! I was 8 years old, and was left there all day long… by myself with no worries or issues.

As I became a better angler with passion and desire to learn all I could about fishing, I used these types of fisheries to learn and catch fish—and some really nice fish over the years. I still use this knowledge today; I will go all the way back in creeks and any reservoir and apply the same techniques I learned fishing these ponds and creeks.

The American Patriot Fishing Lineup: Royale Legend Patriot Twin-Tip Combos

Premium KastFlex IM7 Blank & PTS Technology

The rods, whether it be spinning or baitcasting, are made from the same blank. KastKing uses a lightweight KastFlex IM7 blank; a blank used in many other KastKing rods as well. The Royale Legend Patriot spinning reel features a 6.2:1 gear ratio for quick line pickup and efficient retrieves. I love this reel as it performs flawlessly while skipping worms under docks or throwing heavier spinnerbaits and the likes to great distances.

• Stopping Power: The triple carbon fiber drag washers have enough stopping power to leverage any fish back to shore or the boat. And the screw-in direct-drive handle delivers increased cranking power and durability.
