Celebrate America 250 with the American Patriot Fishing Combo
This past July 4th, America celebrated 250 years since the Declaration of Independence was signed. It is truly remarkable that after 250 years, America is still enduring maritime heritage and marine conservation. That day highlights the freedom all Americans have to fish, and the vital role that federal policies have played in maintaining sustainable fisheries and clean waters.
To honor this milestone, the American Sportfishing Association (ASA) has put together the top 250 American Fishing Destinations all anglers can explore and enjoy. They challenge all of us to get out and fish.
This Independence Day, we're proud to support Keep America Fishing, the advocacy arm of the American Sportfishing Association, and help more people enjoy the sport we love. We believe fishing is for everyone—whether it’s your first cast, your return to the water, or a moment you enjoy now and then. This aligns with Keep America Fishing, working to protect fisheries and support the sportfishing community. Inspired by this mission, find the right gear for where you are—and keep fishing your own way.
Exploring America's Top Destinations and Our Fishing Heritage
Some of the top destinations I have fished that are on the list include Block Island, Key West, Montauk, Lake Hopatcong, Sandy Hook, Yellowstone National Park, and Madison River to name a few. I have fished more as well!
Before buildings, highways, and crowded cities made up America, fishing was a way to feed your family and put a few dollars in your pocket by selling your catch. This was the foundation from which we enjoy fishing today. Fishing is also a great teacher. Fishing teaches anglers that if you work at it and stay with it, the rewards are endless.
Fishing also will bring back fond memories that I know we all treasure. Do you remember your first fishing trip? I do, because my mom made sure I had a fishing pole, bait, and my dog Ginger before she dropped me off at Bay Shore Marina on Long Island, NY to fish! I was 8 years old, and was left there all day long… by myself with no worries or issues.
As I became a better angler with passion and desire to learn all I could about fishing, I used these types of fisheries to learn and catch fish—and some really nice fish over the years. I still use this knowledge today; I will go all the way back in creeks and any reservoir and apply the same techniques I learned fishing these ponds and creeks.
The American Patriot Fishing Lineup: Royale Legend Patriot Twin-Tip Combos
For this celebration, and to keep anglers fishing, KastKing has put together a line of rod and reel combos—the Royale Legend Patriot Baitcaster and the Royale Legend Patriot Spinning.
These combos are brilliant displays of red, white, and blue colors, but best of all, they are durable, budget-friendly, and come in various lengths and weights. They are designed to honor America’s 250th anniversary (1776–2026), and combine patriotic American flag styling with tournament-ready performance built for anglers who fish with pride.
The Meaning Behind the American Patriot Fishing Colors
To me, and I have always said this; the American Flag is the best-looking flag in the world. The brilliant colors are symbolic with what it stands for.
-
The Stars: Represent the 50 individual states.
-
The Stripes: The alternating red and white stripes represent the 13 original colonies that declared independence from Great Britain.
And the colors combined, which many, if you ask may not know, were formally assigned in the 1782 Great Seal to represent the following:
-
Red: Valor, bravery, and hardiness
-
White: Purity and innocence
-
Blue: Vigilance, perseverance, and justice
Features of the American Patriot Fishing Combo
Let’s take a look at what these combos offer anglers, and then I urge you to get out and fish this year and for many more to come.
Premium KastFlex IM7 Blank & PTS Technology
The rods, whether it be spinning or baitcasting, are made from the same blank. KastKing uses a lightweight KastFlex IM7 blank; a blank used in many other KastKing rods as well. This blank offers anglers excellent sensitivity and strength for improved bite detection and hooksets. Add in the PTS (Power Transition System) and you have a two-piece rod that I defy anglers to tell me they can feel the difference between these and a one-piece.
Unique Twin-Tip Protection
Like other KastKing combos, it also includes a unique second tip section. This tip section gives anglers the easy ability to quickly fix a broken tip or one of the top guides and get back on the water without any delay. We all know accidents happen. I can remember an outing many years ago where I was walking through a wooded trail to the ocean front. My rod caught a branch, snapped off the tip, and I was done for the night! With the KastKing twin-tip offering, I would not have lost a night of action.
Smooth Guides & Ergonomic Handles
Moving to the guides and feel, each rod comes with stainless steel guides with zirconium oxide rings. These guides are designed to reduce line friction for smoother, longer casts. Longer casts can make for a real advantage at times, while the smooth retrieve of line will cause less break-offs while your drag takes control of any fish trying to escape. The handles are made from a slip-resistant EVA, which provides all-day comfort and control, while the exposed blank reel seat improves sensitivity.
The Royale Legend Patriot Baitcasting Reel
The baitcaster, my favorite for the most part, is the reel I will use most of the time during the day. A baitcaster gives you the ability to make accurate casts, power, and leverage no matter what you are throwing. As I throw a lot of "power" lures, the baitcaster is the one I prefer.
The baitcaster in the 250th Anniversary set is the Royale Legend Patriot in a color scheme that would make any American proud to use.
-
High-Speed Gear Ratio: Features an 8.0:1 gear ratio for fast retrieves, pitching, flipping, and reaction bait techniques.
-
Backlash Control: The HALO XII magnetic braking system will greatly reduce backlashes, but we all know, the thumb must still come into play.
-
Smooth Operation: Add in the 9+1 MaxiDur double shielded bearings for optimal performance and you have the makings of a great reel.
Other features, which are more on the technical side, include a durable Nylitech frame for increased strength and impact resistance, which basically means if you bang it around in the boat, or drop it, it will stand up. The DTCC line guide and double bearing-supported pinion gear improve casting smoothness, stability, and long-term durability.
The Royale Legend Patriot Spinning Reel
The Royale Legend Patriot spinning reel features a 6.2:1 gear ratio for quick line pickup and efficient retrieves. I love this reel as it performs flawlessly while skipping worms under docks or throwing heavier spinnerbaits and the likes to great distances.
-
Stopping Power: The triple carbon fiber drag washers have enough stopping power to leverage any fish back to shore or the boat. And the screw-in direct-drive handle delivers increased cranking power and durability.
-
MaxiDur Bearings: Similar to the baitcaster, the spinning reel offers 9+1 bearings, these are the KastKing MaxiDur double shielded stainless steel bearing system ensures ultra-smooth operation.
-
Line Management: Rounding out the spinning reel’s performance are the aluminum spool for casting performance and the brass line roller for line management.
Celebrate America 250 with Patriot Fishing Gear
Let’s all celebrate the 250th Anniversary in style. I urge all fellow anglers to grab one of the new KastKing Royale Legend Patriot baitcaster or spinning combo. Show everyone that you are proud to be an American, and proud to display our colors. And, tell America that you love catching fish, and these outfits will make it even easier.
Until next time, tight lines and screaming drags!
