This was actually the first baitcaster I have ever had and used before. The action is smooth and I’ve had no problems with it at all. It was easy getting adjusted to from just a spinning rod and I have no complaints. The rod also looks beautiful and feels very durable. Would recommend to any person wanting to start using baitcasters. I was also about to get one of my biggest bass on it too!
At the time of this review, I am 43 and have been fishing since I was a kid. I go fishing about 4 to 5 times a month and have been using an open face reel my whole life. I have always been curious of bait casters and thought I would give it a try. I went with KastKing as it was advertised that you have a 30 day " no hassle " 30 day return policy. So...here is my review..
I love the rod, I think that is a home run. It feels and fishes great. My main rod for fishing right now is a St Croix so KastKing definitely makes a great rod for a great price
I don't like the reel, it feels cheap. My son's $20 reel from Bass Pro is better quality.
In regards to the return policy, be careful as the rod and/or reel has to be unused so I personally don't see how it's a no hassle return policy. They did make an exception for me to return however you will have to pay the return shipping so I am still out about $20
For the advertisement of no birds nest when casting this is kind of true and kind of not. If you adjust the controls correctly, yes you will not get a birds nest but you can feel that the casting is held back and you are not getting as far our as you can. If you reduce the brakes, you can cast much further but if you don't use your thumb to help the casting, you will 100% get a birds nest. That being said, I watched a few YouTube videos and it took me less than 30 minutes to get it set up where I could cast far and used my thumb to guide the casting.
As this combo was $87.99 ( MSRP ) I had a low expectation and it was met at that. I would assume their more expensive reels cast better and more smoothly but I don't to order a replacement as the return policy does have some strings attached.
I can't wait to throw some jigs on it.
Very smooth, extremely light. Sensitive as all heck. Pulled a decent size large mouth bass out of the retention pond behind my office! Only reason I haven’t given it a 5 is it’s my first bait caster so I don’t have anything to compare it to.
It works great caught many bass and pikerel and it held up great even for the big ones.
