Weighing in at an ultra-light 4.5 ounces, the Kestrel Baitcasting Reel combines feather-light design with rigid performance. The Kestrel Baitcasting Reel redefines angling with a host of premium features. Its TPE handle, meticulously designed for comfort, ensures a superior grip, turning every cast into a pleasure.

Equipped with the Finesse Optimized FAF (Flyout Arc Finesse) Braking system: Two half-ring magnetic brakes automatically adjust to slow down the spool when braking is needed to prevent backlashes. As the speed of the spool decreases, the magnetic field inside the spool diminishes and the magnets retract to maximize casting distance. There is also an external fingertip brake adjustment dial for fine tuning spool speeds for smaller baits.

Mastery in finesse extends to the Kestrel's shallow spool, a micro-marvel weighing only 5.6 grams. Perfectly suited for smaller diameter lines, this ultra-lightweight shallow feather spool enables anglers to cast down to an impressive 1/32 oz with minimal effort.

The reel will absolutely cast down to 1/16oz very well! For 1/16oz I run the brakes on 0, so could have a problem with distance if you go lighter. I wish I would’ve bought the 7.5/1 instead of the 8.5/1, but it was sold out when I bought. Very smooth high quality reel and addicting!

Finesse fishing at it's best.

I have been using bait casting reels for 60 years, while using best money can buy. This combo ranks near the top, but falls a bit short. However for the price there is quality and great usability. The rod is a medium light. Mt preference is a complete medium for a little more horsepower on hook setting. There is a tremendous amount of energy needed for a improved/better hook set. For the price I will get another when a MEDIUM rod @ 7 or 7-2 becomes available.

Can't Handle the Handle

This reel would be an easy 5/5 except one thing...the dainty little whimpy handle that is way too small for even my diminutive hands. I've lost more fish due to losing grip on the handle.
Everything else about this reel is stellar. From the smooth long casts to the buttery, silky smooth drag. Using 10# braid I've landed multiple red drum in the 25-27" range with no problem. But for the love of God KastKing, put a real handle on this reel!

Took a while to get tuned in. I backlash 2 times. Also im not very good yet as using a bait caster. It was fun and awesome to use. I give it five stars.

First Time BFS User

This was the first BFS setup I’ve purchased but currently have a second on the way! Once you get the reel dialed in the way you want it this thing is smooth casting even when throwing BFS lures into the wind! Overall, my initial BFS experience has been great thanks to the KastKing Kestrel and at the price point it’s a great deal for a high quality combo. Biggest bass so far was a 3.36 lb largie but the rod and drag system did great and it was a super fun fight on the light gear!

Great reel

I had my reservations about the quality of the reels and rods offered by Kast King but heard good things so I decided to roll the dice. I was not disappointed! Reel casts light BFS lures a long distance with easy and I have had 0 backlash issues. The rod is light and sensitive. I am very happy with my Kestrel BFS rod and reel!
